Issue Position: Unions

Issue Position

Organized labor is the backbone of the economy in districts like the 16th. Good union jobs are, for so many families, the pinnacle of success, offering people economic security, stability, and the guarantee of good working conditions.

As your representative, I'll be fighting not only to preserve and protect the hard-fought rights of unions, but to expand those rights, broadening union membership and further empowering unions to negotiate with employers. The United States has created an economic system that pits workers against the interests of corporations and the very wealthy; unions are the best mechanism we have to interrupt that dynamic and take power back for the people whose daily hard work props up profits.

I'm for protecting Davis-Bacon, creating federal legislation for collective bargaining, banning so-called Right to Work laws, and advocating for a full repeal of Taft-Hartley. Taft-Hartley made so many of the rollbacks of workers' rights possible and, though we can continue to chip away at it, a full repeal is our most effective option for taking a stand against the assault on workers. Additionally, I'm for ending forced arbitration and mandating worker representation on corporate boards.
